Avison Mountain: Panorama, History and Discoveries in the Heart of the Vosges
The Montagne de l'Avison is a must-see site for anyone wishing to discover the natural and cultural treasures of Bruyères. Known for its emblematic viewpoint, it offers much more than a spectacular panorama: it tells a story, invites contemplation and offers a multitude of activities in the great outdoors. For everyone, the Avison is a real gem to explore.
A place where nature and history meet
Made of Vosges sandstone, called “Le Mirador”, this tower was built in 1900 to replace an old wooden tower. It is 15m high and offers a breathtaking 360° view of the surrounding area. During the fighting in October 1944, this tower suffered a lot of damage. It was restored in 1957. At its summit, there is an orientation table, donated by the Alpine Club in 1898. Made entirely of bronze, this vestige was spared from the events of the Second World War, as it was placed in a safe place by a Bruyérois resident keen to protect the Bruyérois heritage. It was the day after the liberation that this table returned to its original location.
