Hike No. 23 - Domfaing Heights Circuit

A hike that offers different loops allowing you to shorten the route if necessary.
To reach the start by car. In Bruyères, take the direction of Saint Dié des Vosges, at the exit of Brouvelieures, take Domfaing Centre and stop at the town hall car park.
This hike consists of 2 successive loops and can therefore be shortened.
(loop 1: 6 km, loop 2: 7,5 km)
Take Rue de la Côte, opposite the town hall. After the last house and before entering the forest, enjoy the view of the village. Continue uphill. A
When you arrive at the forest path, turn left. Soon, you leave it to go up to the right. Enjoy the views of the villages in the valley to take a little rest.
Just after arriving on the plateau, a small variation takes you to a pretty viewpoint. Continue to the Col de l'Augraye.
If you choose loop 1, turn right, otherwise continue for 100 m and turn left towards the Machiefour cross. After about 1 km, remember to turn right. You are now at the Machiefour crossroads.
If you choose loop 2, turn right, otherwise turn left for 100 m then right.
You are on the ridge path. You will discover a viewpoint on the Pimpierre at Bois de champ, the rock of Pain de Poire (sandstone conglomerate) a chaos of rocks with a magnificent view of the valley and the Lorraine plateau on a clear day. In autumn you will be charmed by the holly trees decorated in red.
You come out onto a forest road (Chemin de la Paix et de la Liberté) which you take on the right. Immediately notice the Fraisimont cross and continue until you reach the Thomas cross crossing which overlooks the Poires Sèches rock.
Before this rock, take the descent on the right (towards the Croix du Riche) until the sign which invites you to follow the track which goes to the right. It brings you back to the
Machiefour cross. Turn left onto the ridge path then, after a descent, you will be back at Augraye. Go straight for 100 m then left towards
Domfaing. It is a pretty ledge path bordered by magnificent Scots pines.
Don't miss the descent on the left which takes you back to the start.
