Cholotte Inn (The Red Waters)

From the famous Auberge de la Cholotte, take the path that plunges into the forest and discover the Roche de Belle-Jambe along the way.
Leave Bruyères towards Saint-Dié des Vosges, cross Brouvelieures, Neuf Moulin, Bois de Champ. 1,500 km after leaving this village, turn right and follow the direction of the Auberge de la Cholotte which is 1 km away. Take advantage of the parking.
In the car park, with your back to the inn, enter the forest and take the path going up to the left. A sign indicates the direction of Roche Belles Jambes. The slope is steep but the distance is short. You arrive at a forest path and take it to the left. Roche Belles Jambes, on your right, will amaze you with its fine pink sandstone, its caves and its pillar.
Continue and you will soon find the first houses of Les Rouges Eaux; At the intersection marked Scierie Catiche (disappeared) continue straight. You will soon go along a high embankment reinforced with large granite blocks, you will then turn left in front of the last house. You will pass over the Mortagne River. A short distance away you will arrive at a tarmac road which you will cross immediately. Take the time to look on your right at the Grande Cheminée (name given to this remains of a factory and which has the particularity of being square in section). Start the climb. Enjoy some beautiful views: bell tower of the village church, valley towards Saint-Dié. Take the road to the left and flat
forest of the Basse du Jeal for 2,5 km. Take advantage of this pleasant and relaxing path to observe magnificent fir trees, small openings on the houses of the valley including our starting inn. For connoisseurs, many animal prints mark the sand, especially deer. At the first intersection, turn left on a descent which will take you to a tarmac road. You will have noticed towards the bottom of the descent, a superb isolated fir tree, about 40 m high. Take this road to the left and very quickly, you find the first houses. A hundred meters further, you turn right (Auberge de la Cholotte) to find your parking lot.
