Hike No. 10 - Avison Circuit

Take the passage under the trees and go along the bandstand to reach the opposite corner by following the markers. Take the direction of Belmont by rue Jean Lurçat. You go along the Bruyères Museum of Popular Art (Musée Henri Mathieu). Note that it is located in the old synagogue, now listed as a historic monument. When you arrive at Place du Commandant Flesch, continue straight on. After 50 m, you go along the hospital. Then turn left onto rue de l'Avison. You go along the cemetery and its military square. Continue straight on towards the Avison which stands in front of you. You have now arrived at the foot of the Avison. Turn left onto the path that goes up (a barrier prevents vehicles from passing). The Avison is the emblematic place of Bruyères. It is probably the historical center of population in the area since remains dating back to the 4th century have been found there. It is also a favourite walking spot for the Bruyèrois. As you climb, observe the changes in the vegetation following the change in orientation. A few blueberry bushes also dot the slopes of the Avison. Be aware that here we do not call them blueberries but "brimbelles". After twenty minutes of climbing, you arrive at the
foot of the Mirador. Just a little more effort to climb the few steps that separate you from a remarkable viewpoint over the area. A 360° panorama awaits you. In good weather, you can observe the peaks of the Vosges (use the orientation table to identify them). To return, take the path in the opposite direction. Many paths crisscross the Avison. You can take them to go back down. Some, however, have steps.
