CHENIMENIL SCOTS PINE

Diameter: 46 and 50 cm
Height: 25 m
Estimated age: 120 years

Widespread in Scandinavian countries, I am a coniferous species that colonized the Vosges 10.000 years before our era, after the last ice ages. Very hardy, I was widely used for the reconstruction of degraded forests at the beginning of the XNUMXth century. I adapt to all types of soil: from the most acidic Vosges sandstone, to the waterlogged basins of the lower slopes, including the heaviest clay soils. I also tolerate drought. My high forests called pine groves dress the warm slopes in light green where the fir, more demanding than me in terms of atmospheric humidity, has difficulty thriving. My trunk* covered with salmon-red bark plates distinguishes me from other conifers with a more austere appearance. My light foliage lets in a lot of light and other species, less eager for sun than me, grow under my light cover. Contrary to what my portrait would suggest, I do not have a twin brother. An accident in my early youth broke my young shoot which grew again by forming two parallel stems which, over time, gave rise to two trees. In fact, I am a twin or two-faced pine tree, not ordinary, is it?
