Large-leaved lime
FAYS LARGE-LEAVED LIME
Diameter: 87 and 89 cm
Height: 19 m
Estimated age: 160 years
It is said that Pierre PONCEL's grandfather, Father BEGEL, well known in Fays, planted me on the property that Gaston LITAIZE, a famous organist who died in 1963, bought in 1991. I would therefore have been born around 1890-1900. Without having the longevity of oaks, I can live up to 2 to 3 centuries if nothing happens to me. The problem is that I am attacked by a wood-eating fungus that is gradually eating away at my heart. But the peripheral part of my trunk is still very much alive and my woody framework can still hold up if the parasite that I am hosting gives me some respite. If you know the famous Gérardmer lime tree that grew towards the end of the XNUMXth century, consolidated with concrete but has now disappeared, I therefore have some chance of still watching over the home of Gaston LITAIZE who gave such beautiful concerts on summer evenings. My foliage still trembles with emotion.
