HEATHER SYCAMORE MAPLE
Dimensions:
Diameter: 88 cm
Height: 20 m
Estimated age: 150 years

My Latin name is Acer pseudo platanus, and it is possible that the genus Acer has the same meaning as the adjective acer meaning pointed, because many of my cousins of the same genus have leaves cut into pointed lobes like me.
I like the rich soils of lowland forests, but I can also colonize the Vosges peaks. I live rather in a scattered state, mixed with beech and other species depending on local conditions. Given my great fertility, I have a strong capacity to produce many winged seeds, called samaras, which, carried by the wind, will swarm in the neighboring forests. My foliage takes on a beautiful yellow color in the fall and I am often planted along roadsides and in parks, as an ornamental or honey-producing tree.
When my wood is wavy, which is rare, it is used in violin making. A wood of great value, I thus acquire an enviable destiny, to live a new life, lulled by melodious sounds.
