Let's talk to my favorite trees, you'll love them!
Located between an altitude of 200 and 1100 meters, the Vosges forest benefits from particular climatic conditions. The forest covers 60% of the surface area of the Department.
Broadleaf trees on the plains, conifers at altitude. The leading region for the production of spruce fir with a harvest of 1,5 million m3 of logs, the Vosges massif produces a third of French production with a particularly sought-after wood of large and beautiful dimensions.
The forest is a dominant element of the Vosges massif, it is part of our living environment. Natural regeneration, a largely predominant method of forest renewal in our region, allows spontaneous genetic adaptation of native trees.
Services provided by the forest: protection of water, soil, landscapes, air quality, biodiversity, production of wood for the industry, wood energy, carbon sinks, public reception.
If the forest does not need man, man really needs the forest!!
In our region, if the fir was deliberately favored for construction needs, the spruce came to colonize abandoned agricultural land, the Scots pine remains in the minority, but well established locally.
One thing is certain today: climate change is much faster than the forest's natural adaptation mechanisms!
So, we need to diversify the composition of the forests as much as possible with a mixture of adapted and resistant species!
"But me, Art Dare, I still make my fir honey there and believe me, it is excellent!”
