And here we are now overlooking my stock of raw materials for making my residence.

At the bottom of some beautiful and pleasant Vosges valleys, on fast-flowing waters or quiet canals, the first paper mills were built more than 500 years ago. At the end of the XNUMXth century, there were about a dozen paper mills. As in the whole region, the Thirty Years' War caused great damage, but after a period of reconstruction and consolidation, it was the French Revolution that once again weakened this noble industry. After the Restoration, business resumed and developed.

Today, in this large department which is one of the leading producers, the paper mills manufacture reels more than 10 m wide, at a speed of 2000 m per minute.

You have seen on the site of the Laval sur Vologne paper mills, the last paper site of the community of communes: Papeteries des Vosges and Lucart (specific and hygiene paper), to which we must add BB Distrib (diapers) have replaced the Mougeot establishments. These modern factories have been able to adapt to the evolution of technologies and needs.

The commune of Docelles has long been considered the "City of Paper" in the Valley.
