Zoom, zoom. Hi Marie! Still behind your gate, well sheltered! What a funny story!
In the early years of the 19th century, a worker named Mathias Prévôt was digging on a property belonging to Dr. Jean-Baptiste Mougeot when suddenly, under his spade, he came across a statue of the Virgin. Eager to honor Mary, whose image was offered to him in a singular way, Mathias Prévôt ran to place the statue in a natural niche in a nearby rock.
Soon, the noise of the find spreads in the surrounding area and many faithful come to pray at the feet of the Virgin. But by taking possession of this corner of land, did Mary not seem to be asking for a small sanctuary there?
Mougeot understood this and had the chapel that we see today built.
In 2007, the chapel was ransacked and the statue of Our Lady of the Rock was broken. The statue of the Virgin and Child was reconstructed and put back in its niche, this time behind closed gates.
In 2012, work was carried out to reinforce the path.
